ETHEREAL WATERS
Water pulls on my emotions as the moon pulls on the ocean, cogent, timeless, and never-ending. As an art photographer, I find a unique and deep connection, an emotional tug with water in motion. The ethereal quality of a dew drop sliding off a flower or the smooth undulations of the Pacific Ocean are challenging to express visually, for water can deliver a quiet, peaceful presence or turbulent moments, and each is demanding to be articulated in words, paint, or the art photography medium.
When working my camera on an image of water, the sound of rushing water, even the tinkle of a small stream, cuts off and buries away the conscious rattle of the world around me. The airy quality of moving water expertly conceals noise, especially the sound of the human voice, and I feel a soothing calm that I work to capture and preserve in my art prints.
Review this collection, and I believe you will experience a refreshing calm as you explore the rich blues and greens of the “Ethereal Waters.”
Micro Falls
This close-up image of a micro waterfall along Avalanche Creek reminded me of an infant taking her first steps— then falling yet trying again. The stories of life and nature go on, having been written before, yet to be written again as time moves on.
Cotton Water Flow
Alone with my capture tools, I explored the narrow gold and red rock crevice that channeled Avalanche Creek into a rush of cotton smooth water. The energy and mysticism of this scene continues to excite me with positive metaphors and my hope to return.
Ethereal, Eternal Night
At night, the ghostly ethereal feels eternal, untouchable, and distant. I became lost in the faint light while creating this image, but I also found a new and personal light in this moment of isolation. Just me, the night, and the echoes of natural music emanating from tumbling waters.
Faces in the Blue Stream
At a macro distance, I discovered the fleeting formation of a human face in this ethereal and perhaps eternal stream of blue Montana waters. As McDonald Creek gently flows within the spectacular confines of Glacier National Park, what stories will be told?
Golden Stream
Slivers of golden sun stream along the ethereal waters in the upper reaches of Paradise River, capturing a precious mix of light and surging waters on granitic streambed rock. A moment I was fortunate to receive and one I will not forget.
Mountain Mist
The cool morning mist of Van Trump Creek called my name, I answered, and I followed the soft outlines of the stream to create a pastel balance of ethereal water flow and a quiet color palette. Feelings of comfort and contentment abound within me, echoing what I felt that day, that time.
The Crossing
A long and patient exposure allows me to capture this ethereal stream as well as the unspoken words of a fallen cross. Even with the obstructions caused by the logs, the waters will find a way to eventually share their nurturing stories with the welcoming waters of Lake Quinault below.
Umber Calm
Along Avalanche Creek, the waters splash with a delicate calm, and a soft bubble and burble fills the air. The soft misty water flow calmly attempts to tame the rugged red rock, one drip, one moment at a time.
Water Threads
I was mesmerized by the soft and yet gushing threads of water as they raced and rushed over the shaded rock. I stayed for hours, working my camera and the scene to capture threads, bits, and pieces of mist and magic. As I edited this image, I felt I was still there, immersed in the mist gently stirred by the ever-present breezes from the falls.
